A dating coach with access to millions of swipes explains why connection has never been easier, and closeness has never been harder.

Sudri's first instinct was not to suggest he message her. It was to run the photos through an AI detector.
At TEDxBeverlyGrove 2026, under the theme "Reimagining the Possible," Sudri, a dating coach, matchmaker, and relationship strategist, used that moment to open a talk about what she has witnessed inside modern dating, both as a professional matchmaker with access to app-level data and as someone who has caught herself in the same patterns as her clients.
Sudri told the TEDxBeverlyGrove audience that before her friend's curiosity had a chance to develop, suspicion had already taken its place. The woman in the photos may or may not have been real. What had changed, Sudri said, was where trust now enters a relationship, and how easily technology has moved in ahead of it.
She described clients who could close eight-figure business deals without hesitation but could not approach someone in a hotel lobby, and who admitted that rejection delivered through an app no longer registered the way it once did in person. She described high-achieving clients paralyzed not by a lack of options, but by an abundance of them, unable to commit because every choice now felt like a potential trade-up. And she described a Zoom call with one of her coaching students, a special needs teacher who had done everything the modern self-improvement playbook prescribed, and who broke down in quiet, exhausted tears rather than triumph.
"The price of closeness has always been courage," Sudri said. "We didn't eliminate that price. We just stopped paying it."
Sudri was candid about her own vulnerability to the same reflex she coaches her clients out of. After a period of silence from someone she was seeing, she described reaching for the same avoidance patterns she warns others against, before choosing instead to communicate directly.
Her talk closed by naming what she has observed in the couples who do build lasting relationships, a pattern rooted not in chemistry or intensity, but in steadiness, direct communication, and a willingness to stay in an uncomfortable conversation rather than exit it.
Sudri holds a master's degree in Conflict Resolution and Negotiation from Columbia University and was named a Forbes 30 Under 30 honoree. She rose to wider recognition as the lead matchmaker on the Roku series Match Me in Miami and as a relationship expert in the docuseries Lonely Fans. She currently serves as Head Matchmaker for the dating app Blush and hosts the podcast High Value Dating. Based in Los Angeles, she has built a following of nearly one million people and works with singles worldwide through her coaching programs.
Nelly Sudri's talk will be released online in the coming months as part of the TEDxBeverlyGrove 2026 speaker series.
